How to fix internet speed issues when a PC and an xbox 360 are connected to it?

I have a linksys wrt54g router, when i plug my xbox 360 and my pc into it the connection drops severly and my friends cant even join my games anymore, are there specific settings that i need, or is it an issue with the router, and should i upgrade?
