Inquiry about xanax - different colors?

I've been taking Xanax on and off for the last 2 years and I do agree that there is a difference between the two colors. I've had both the extended release (which I didn't care for) and the regular (0.5, 0.25, and the 1mg) which have all worked and where white tablets. I went to another doctor and was prescribed the yellow tab you're prolly talking about; and, I felt they we're less helpful. I am not sure why, but I have a feeling they (your doctor) was prolly trying to "ween" you off of it. In the long run, you really don't want to rely on pills.
